Visitations and Flowers
During the year Deacons sign up to visit individuals on our visitation list. We keep in touch with these individuals in a variety of ways including monthly calls, cards, visits with those who feel comfortable with an in person visit. Twice yearly flowers are purchased through the Deacon Fund and delivered to our shut-ins and others who are not able to get out. We give Easter flowers in the spring and poinsettias at Christmas.
Dime a Day Collection
The “Dime a Day” offering is taken up the last Sunday of the month. The money given is divided equally between the Salvation Army and The Food Bank of the Southern Tier. The money that goes to the food bank is used to help provide food for the Backpack Program, which sends food home with less fortunate students to help provide nutritious food for the weekend.
Fill The Cart with Love
Each month nonfood items are collected in a basket inside the Church Street entrance. Items collected vary each month, but include such things as, bathing supplies, diapers, laundry supplies, other personal items and so on.
Angel Tree
Deacons organize and lead this project In November and December each year. Our congregation is very helpful with this outreach program. Last year, working with Catholic Charities, we were able to help 5 families have a better Christmas giving a total of 54 gifts.
Agape Fund
Our congregation donates each year to the Agape Fund, which is used to assist people in need of financial help. The Deacons all have gift cards for $10 from Dollar General and Walmart and services cards for individuals that Deacons might encounter who need the help.
Communion
Deacons volunteer to prepare Communion each month and clean up afterwards.
